Hi - since my earlier post about PhX timing out hasn't been resolved or fixed, I'm still dealing with it barfing at random times. One aspect of this is that when PhX reboots, it often(not always, tho) will position one or two of my chart windows at odd locations. Doesn't seem to remember the positions of ALL windows like it should. Usually just one or two of the windows are messed up.

I've tried reopening the app, logging off then back on and neither fixes the problem. And, since this keeps occurring during the trading day, I'm not in a position of being able to reboot my computer.

If I logoff after the market closes and let things sit/rot for a while, it usually comes up correctly.

Trying it -today-, 5 times reboot/logoff-logon and it continues to crap out.

Ideas/suggestions(other than rebooting my computer, which I think is not the issue here).

After about 8-9 attempts, I logged in connecting to a different server and it came up correctly. I didn't track which servers the previous attempts used, so I don't know if switching servers helps or was just coincidental.

So, still in need of some help here on this...

Hello AMA,

We have had no reported outages since the last time you wrote us, so I don't think that is going to be our issue as it was last time. Are you on a hard wired or wireless connection? Many users find that a wireless connection will time out and be forced to reconnect during heavy markets so that would be the first thing I can look at.

If you can email me your login, via Help->Email ProphetX Support, I would be happy to ask our operations team to evaluate your connection to our servers. We should be able to tell how much latency we are seeing on your connection.

In regards to the save issue, ProphetX does some odd things when saving a workbook after a disconnect, it saves a copy called WIP.prxWorkbook instead of yourname.prxWorkbook. That said it has been decided to remove this in the newest versions of the client that are scheduled for release very soon. 3.13.xx I believe will be that version number. I believe this will help tremendously with the latter problems.

Hopefully some of the above is helpful and I look forward to hearing back on your login so I can continue the research.

Hard-wired line to the web. DSL through AT&T. Very reliable. So much so that I use this line, even though I have a 107Meg cable line, as I need redundancy. Since there's not a lot of data moving, I need reliability more so than throughput, and this setup has been rock solid for many months now. Better than cable modem setup, so this is what I now use.

Also, from you above post, if I suffer a disconnect, can I just delete the 'WIP.prxWorkbook' file ?

When I reopen PhX(not logon, just reopen a workbook), I always go for my own workbook, figuring that's the best way to get the various chart windows I need.

Generally, but in some rare cases the original workbook will get damaged. This may be what is happening to you, that is unclear, but given your repetitive disconnects and the times at which the problems occur, it is certainly the most likely mechanic.

I can see if the release version is close enough to allow for me to let you evaluate its behavior, if that is an option for you? I can certainly inquire about its status for you.

Just send your information to prophetx@dtn.com and we'll take it from there. I will also try to get an update on the request concerning an extended timeout period.
