I'm getting an error "Loading Tick Data Failed: Unable to connect to tick history socket" when I try to pull Tick data with the T&S component (DTNIQ software).

what symbol and what server are you connected to? I tried @ESM5 and MSFT and had no issue.

Ned,

That is odd since I am on the same server. Please log out and back in and see if it takes care of it. I am using the DTN.IQ client with the beta IQFeed and was able to get T&S on both of those symbols.

When I try @ESM5 and MSFT I don't get the history, but I do get the current ticks as they occur, so the error message doesn't appear.

Try a very thinly traded issue like MBJ (only 2800 shares traded today).

it sounds like you are not getting connected to the history socket for some reason. A reconnect to IQFeed should take care of it. I checked with our OPS group and they aren't seeing any problems with history servers, however, if you can't connect to it, that is what you will see (no backfill but streaming updates coming in).

I am getting both no matter what symbol I enter.

now connected to 66.112.148.224 and same problem.

I don't have the beta client installed on this system (only on my development and custom app platform). This is plain vanilla DTNIQ software install.

Should I try the beta client on this box?

Ned,

Since this is a different box, it really sounds like a firewall issue or something that is keeping you from connecting to the history socket. I would suggest installing the IQFeed beta (you must install it in the same directory as DTN.IQ if you have DTN.IQ installed). If it still doesn't work (if its a firewall issue it may not unless the firewall prompts to allow the new IQFeed), run the IQFeed Diagnostics app that came with the new IQFeed and see what it shows for historical data.

I got it working by copying IQconnect.exe and IQ32.dll from the beta client (IQFEED folder) to the DTN.IQ folder. I couldn't figure out how to make the client installer install the files directly in the DTN.IQ folder.

Before that, I tried disabling "personal firewall" and then "security" on Norton Internet Security 2004. Neither of those worked so I doubt it's a firewall issue (unless my ISP did something overnight)

After making that change, I now notice that Snap Quote sometimes doesn't show Last & Change (for example INTC & MSFT), but does for other tickers (INDU.X & QQQQ). Maybe it because it's after 4PM EST.

Another odd thing I notice after the change. Both Watch List and Level 2 fail to update high or low as stocks break out. For example, my Watchlist and Level 2 show the high for the day on QQQQ at 37.72, but the last is 37.88.

Both of these issues can be tracked in DTN's bug database. They are #2850 and #2859. Thanks!
