Msg. 1 of 2
Do I need to serialize my lookup thru one socket connection? Or, can I open a connection for each symbol, using a fixed size thread pool so that the number of connections at any one time will be limited? I will be requesting daily data for up to one thousand symbols, usually before the market open. Are there any tricks, hints, or things to look out for? I program in Java. Thanks, David

We don't have a specific limit to the number of threads or socket connections you can make to IQFeed, but then, we also haven't tested a worse case scenario to see at what level you may impact the client/server. I think you will find that most developers set a fixed size thread pool as you mentioned. If you are going to be pulling a thousand symbols' daily data, it would make sense that you only need to pull a single data point each day, and you should be able to churn through pretty quick. However, we recommend and prefer that you do this during after hours (as you mentioned).
