I was just told by the phone support person that DTN now OUTSOURCES its new features! I need to say to Jay Froscheiser that I do NOT agree that the "new content" will help me make "even better trading decisions."

On the contrary, the two most valuble news features to me are GONE! They were:

Results of Ecconomic Reports This Week
US Event Calandar (Day, Month, Date)

These two items under DTN News/ Business, Finance, and the Economy were the only two "Pro-active" items you had. Now they are gone. Frankly, without them, your news features mean very little to me. If they weren't free, I would cancel them.

Please try to give me some encouraging news about them. On a more global level, I am very concerned about your outsourcing of this feature. Who is now providing all your news features? Can you provide guarantees as to the accuracy and timliness of the news now? Are there plans to oursources more and more of your services? How about the CME/Globex feed? Do you still receive that directly? Or are you going through one ore more other vendors for that data? I have made another post regarding the trade timestamp defeciencies, and I have a growing concern about time lags (some well over a minute) that I experienced on emini feeds, and am concerned about the direction of recent trends in the DTN services I use. Thanks for your consideration.

We don't outsource our new features. We look to provide the most comprehensive services at the most affordable prices. In the case of the newsroom, we had full time staff reading newswires, editing the content, deciding what they thought was relevant, and posting content. It wasn't tradeable data, because it wasn't always real-time. The vast majority of our customers are traders, and thus, need real-time data (both quotes and news) to make fast, informed decisions.

The 2 calendars you mentioned have always been from a 3rd party. All news, except for a couple of commentary stories, have always been from a 3rd party. The newsroom filtered, and edited the 3rd party content before sending it. We are looking for a replacement source for these 2 calendars since the source we were getting them from wants too much money to send them directly.

RealTimeTraders is one of the best trading newswires available. It is a premium service on most other platforms, and we give it to you for free. Not only are they reliable and comprehensive, but they send content outside of regular market hours. Thus, you get news early in the morning and late into the evening. There is also content during the weekends.

Can we guarantee accuracy and timliness? No. We never could. Because the previous content wasn't real-time, timeliness wasn't an issue. News should be coming in much faster now than ever before.

As for outsourcing other content, no. Our domestic and canadian datafeeds are direct.

There is no reason to be concerned about the direction of recent trends. These trends show our renewed focus on what our customers need. While some people want a newspaper like we used to have, our focus is on provide real-time trading information you can use to become more profitable. We are trying to provide information you can't get elsewhere. If you need a newspaper, most of them are free on the web. If you need reliable, fast news and quotes, you can't beat DTN services.
