In recent days, I've noticed that my option chain info lags behind watchlist and T&S data. Typically, this starts out at market open about 2 minutes behind, then -slowly- creeps up until it pretty much catches up to realtime. Can take 30 minutes to do so.

Not cool, as I trade options and need relevant data.

Different servers, good broadband connection, WinXP, etc, etc, etc. Doesn't seem to be on my
end, particularly since tick/minute/watchlist data is coming through just fine.

Ideas ??

Hello AMA, what option symbols are you looking at when the market opens? This can certainly put a strain on the CPU if you are looking several hundred options for a certain equity. I would like to do some testing tomorrow if to see if I can duplicate what you are seeing with the Option Chains and the symbols you are watching.

I use a simple opts chain - IBM puts & calls. Only this one stock.

Same setup I've been using for years.

Usually, at market open, things are a bit chaotic, but settle out quickly.

Last week was the first time I've noticed the opts chain lagging for substantial
time periods.

Trades are posting normally, but when I check the actual trade timestamp with what
I'm currently seeing on T&S/Watchlist, it's way late.

Also, I use Tick/Min Time and Sales for IBM, and a Minute T&S for INDU.X (DJ30).

Watchlist has IBM, INDU.X, SPX.XO

Not very complex...

This morning, 1/26/10, 10:00 eastern time, the opts chain for IBM is running almost two minutes
late.

In addition to my usual watchlist, T&S stuff, I opened a tick T&S window for IBM BF, Feb 130c
option. It is reporting trades correctly, on time, etc. BUT, the opts chain is running about
two minutes behind on both bid-ask type info and also posting of the actual trades. The opts chain timestamp for individual trades is correct, but is posted two minutes late.

Need a quick fix here, guys, as I can't rely on this. I won't blame DTN for $$$ yet, but if this
doesn't get fixed, I'll have to find an alternate, fast.

Thx

Ok, got w/Curtis, going to do some network debugging, as it -appears- the problem may be
network related(!)

Problem was a combo of network and more horsepower needed on my pc to handle
the increased workload requirements of more data being collected.

PC & router should occasionally be recycled to refresh the ip connections; otherwise, things
can bog down in the network.

I'll be doing a hardware refresh in the near future, so should have more grunt on my box.

Thanks again to Curtis for helping on this.

Just ordered a Thinkpad W700 laptop which should be big time overkill for this, so hopefully this situation will not recur in the near future...

Well, I got my W700 Thinkpad up and running and all of my former issues & problems
have gone away. Amazing what a fresh software load(Win7, too) and a LOT more
horsepower will do...I do have one little question that'll I'll start a new thread on,
but that has nothing to do with this thread.
